Guangdong Vehicles Southbound Scheme (“粵車南下”) – Update and Industry Collaboration

ld like to update members on the latest developments of the Guangdong Vehicles Southbound Scheme (“粵車南下”), which has been in operation for one month with encouraging initial results.

To date, over 2,500 applications have been received for Guangdong vehicles to enter Hong Kong’s urban areas, and more than 1,000 vehicles have successfully reserved trips to Hong Kong. The current arrangement allows 100 vehicles per day to enter the urban area, with a maximum stay of three days per vehicle.

To mark the first month of implementation, the Transport and Logistics Bureau recently engaged around 30 representatives from shopping malls, hotels, theme parks, airlines and related sectors, demonstrating strong industry interest and collaboration.

Government will expand the scheme to cover four additional Guangdong cities

The Government has indicated that the scheme will be expanded after six months to cover four additional Guangdong cities. It has also stated that it remains open to increasing daily quotas and extending the permitted length of stay, subject to operational experience, user and public adaptation, and the utilisation of supporting facilities. Any enhancements will continue to follow a “small steps, fast pace” approach.

Implications for the Hospitality & Tourism Trade

The scheme supports a wide range of visitor activities, including sightseeing, shopping, theme park visits, business travel, exhibitions, and family visits. Industry representatives have noted growing opportunities, with hotels and attractions already launching parking‑inclusive packages and related offers, particularly around festive periods.  Supporting measures announced by trade partners include parking concessions, bundled ticket offers, hotel accommodation with parking options, and enhanced EV charging and smart parking facilities.

Airport Parking Services

The scheme also includes the “Easy Park Fly” service at the airport boundary, allowing Guangdong drivers to park and transfer flights without entering Hong Kong. To date, over 6,000 applications and more than 2,000 reservations have been recorded. The Government is also working towards the early launch of “Easy Park Tour”, enabling visitors to park at the boundary and transfer to the city by public transport.

Appreciation and Ongoing Engagement

We would like to thank members for your active participation and support in responding to the scheme, including the development of accommodation, parking, and promotional offers.  The Federation will continue to work closely with the Government and trade partners to promote hotel offerings through this scheme and related initiatives, with a view to enhancing Hong Kong hotels’ appeal to this growing visitor segment.  Members are encouraged to stay engaged and share feedback as the scheme evolves.
