The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) held its annual flagship industry seminar, “Hong Kong Tourism Overview 2026,” on 18 March 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event recorded its highest-ever attendance, attracting nearly 2,000 participants through both physical and online participation. Attendees came from across the tourism value chain, including representatives of local, Mainland and overseas travel agencies, attractions, hotels, airlines, the retail and dining sectors, meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE), cruise operators, HKTB partners, as well as tourism faculty members and students from local tertiary institutions. The strong turnout reflected broad-based industry engagement and confidence in Hong Kong’s tourism outlook.
At the seminar, HKTB outlined its strategic direction for 2026, with a focus on diversifying source market investment, attracting high-value overnight visitors, strengthening trade support and partnerships, and reinforcing Hong Kong’s distinctive tourism appeal and competitiveness. HKTB Chairman Dr Peter Lam also announced the upcoming launch of a new global thematic promotion campaign to showcase Hong Kong’s diverse, vibrant and unique travel experiences to international audiences. In addition, HKTB Executive Director Mr Anthony Lau reviewed the tourism sector’s performance over the past year and shared insights into market trends and prospects for the year ahead.
The programme also featured two thematic forums. The first, “Leveraging Hong Kong’s Advantages, Achieving Economic Benefits,” focused on how Hong Kong can further consolidate its MICE tourism strengths and generate wider economic benefits. The second, “Unlocking Tourism Market Diversity: Strategies for a New Era of High-Value and Experience-Based Travel,” examined development opportunities in premium and experience-led tourism, supported by market intelligence and traveller spending trends. Representatives from HKTB’s global offices also exchanged views with local industry stakeholders on developments in key source markets and future promotional priorities.
Members are encouraged to take note of HKTB’s strategic priorities and consider how these may be reflected in business planning, partnership development and product enhancement. In particular, attention may be given to high-value overnight segments, MICE and premium tourism offerings, cross-sector collaboration, and the use of market intelligence to strengthen competitiveness and align with Hong Kong’s unique destination strengths.
