We would like to share with members two recent cross-sector visits relating to “Chinese Medicine + Tourism” and “Finance + Tourism”, which brought together Legislative Council Members and representatives of the tourism and hotel sectors to explore new opportunities for collaboration across industries.
The visits offered valuable opportunities for exchange, broadened participants’ understanding of developments in other strategic sectors, and highlighted the potential for cross-sector collaboration to enrich Hong Kong’s tourism offerings and support wider economic development.
“Chinese Medicine + Tourism” Visit
With the official commissioning of the The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong, Hong Kong’s Chinese medicine development has reached an important milestone. The hospital not only marks a significant new stage in the development of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong, but also provides an important platform for demonstrating modern professional standards and the advancement of Chinese medicine services in the territory.
In this connection, Hon Perry Yiu, together with Hon Chan Wing-kwong, Hon Vivian Kong, and representatives of the tourism industry, formed a cross-sector delegation to visit the hospital. The delegation was warmly received by Professor Bian Zhaoxiang, Hospital Chief Executive, and his team, who introduced the hospital’s facilities and operations.
During the visit, participants gained first-hand insight into the hospital’s standardised service procedures, professional clinical system, and advanced teaching and research resources supporting the development of Chinese medicine in Hong Kong.
The visit also created a meaningful platform for dialogue between the tourism and Chinese medicine sectors on how Hong Kong’s distinctive Chinese medicine story may be better presented, and how tourism may help support the international development of Hong Kong’s Chinese medicine profession.
“Finance + Tourism” Visit
Promoting cross-sector collaboration has long been one of Hon Perry Yiu’s key areas of focus. In a recent “Finance + Tourism” visit organised with the assistance of Hon Robert Lee Wai-wang, Hon Perry Yiu, Hon Vivian Kong, and the TIC, hotel and tourism industry took part in a programme of exchange and exploration.
The delegation first visited the HKEX Museum, where participants gained a deeper understanding of Hong Kong’s financial development history and the evolution of the Stock Exchange. During the visit, the delegation also exchanged views with Ms Vanessa Lau, Chief Operating Officer, on the integration of finance and tourism, as well as on the effective use of museum resources.
The delegation then visited the Hong Kong Gold Exchange, where Dr Haywood Chueng, Chairman, introduced the history of gold trading in Hong Kong. Participants also had the opportunity to experience the weight of physical gold first-hand and to explore possible avenues of collaboration between Hong Kong’s gold trading sector and the tourism industry.
This visit demonstrated the significant potential of cross-sector integration and underscored the opportunities for tourism to connect with financial services, institutional heritage, and experiential offerings in new and innovative ways.
We look forward to seeing further initiatives that promote “+ Tourism” collaboration across different sectors and contribute to the diversified and high-quality development of Hong Kong’s tourism industry.
