FEHD Commences Applications for Allowing Dogs on Permitted Food Premises

The Federation would like to inform members that the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) has commenced accepting applications from restaurants to allow dogs to enter permitted food premises starting 18 May 2026 (10:00am).

 

The first batch of approvals is expected to be granted in mid-June 2026. Subject to approval, the FEHD will specify a date in July 2026 from which dogs may enter permitted food premises. The exact commencement date will be announced in due course.

 

Please note that no dogs are permitted on any food premises prior to the specified July date, except for guide dogs and working dogs.

 

Application Details

 

Date and Arrangement of Balloting

  • Balloting Date: Expected mid-June 2026
  • The balloting process will be recorded and uploaded to the FEHD dedicated website for public viewing.
  • Balloting results will be notified to applicants via SMS.

 

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a full restaurant licence
  • Restaurant area must be larger than 20 square metres
  • Applications from the following will not be accepted:
    • Hotpot restaurants
    • Barbecue restaurants (including teppanyaki and Korean barbecue)

 

Apart from the above restrictions, all fully licensed restaurants are eligible to apply.

 

Industry Briefings

To facilitate understanding of the new arrangements, the FEHD conducted briefing sessions from 11 to 13 May 2026, attended by over 360 industry representatives, with more than 4,600 online viewers via live broadcast.  

  • A fourth briefing session will be held on 28 May 2026 (2:30pm – 5:00pm) via live broadcast on the FEHD Facebook page.
